Immunization is one of the most effective public health interventions to prevent childhood diseases, yet low immunization rates persist in many parts of Nigeria, including Taraba State. The Nigerian government has implemented various immunization campaigns to boost coverage and reduce the prevalence of vaccine-preventable diseases. These campaigns include outreach programs, mass media awareness initiatives, and collaboration with local governments and international partners. However, despite these efforts, immunization rates in Taraba State remain suboptimal, especially in rural areas, where logistical and socio-cultural barriers exist (Nwankwo et al., 2024). This study will evaluate the effectiveness of these government-led immunization campaigns and the factors that influence their success in increasing vaccination rates among children in Taraba State.
Government immunization campaigns in Taraba State have faced several challenges in achieving their intended outcomes, including persistent misconceptions, vaccine hesitancy, logistical inefficiencies, and inadequate funding. These challenges result in low immunization rates, leading to the resurgence of preventable diseases, such as measles and polio. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of government immunization campaigns in Taraba State, identify the underlying causes of vaccine hesitancy, and recommend strategies for improving the success of these programs.
The study will focus on both urban and rural areas of Taraba State, analyzing the outcomes of government-led immunization campaigns and identifying the factors affecting their effectiveness. Limitations include potential difficulty in accessing remote areas and obtaining reliable data from local government officials and health workers.
